each strip is 12cm width x 9cm length
sew horizontally 1cm from edge to make a tube, turn inside out, embroider while checking positioning, then attach to whatever else
note that the backing strip length won't be known until I have the wooden rods to check

visible height of holding strip should be 3cm (width 5cm)
making it 3.5-4cm to account for minor sagging, makes the vertical strip's visible area 30.5-33.5 not including the area that wraps around the rods
rods are 1.5cm diameter, circ is 4.71cm. including some folding back to hide the seam, and a little bit of slack...maybe around 7cm for each edge.
comes to around 47cm.

string for the rods (yarn) should be tied tightly, might be worth cutting some grooves in the rods + glue to make sure the string doesn't come off
bottom rod could maybe use some velcro and/or glue to keep it from slipping too
I think the top edge could be closed with velcro to itself...this way I don't have to sew through 6 layers and can remove the entire piece

backing strip should ideally be heavier/more rigid to minimise distortion but this makes it harder to sew.
holding strip should be attached to the backing strip in at least 2 places (top of strip and middle bottom of loop), maybe square + cross-shape as well for extra weight distribution
could insert a board inside but I would like to be able to roll this up to store.

bottom loop could honestly just be part of the backing strip itself...just wouldn't have a place to put the s carabiner and I would have more rods left over.
was thinking about the bottom rod being extra weight to straighten the backing strip though.
in that case...backing strip would be 7cm + 25.5 = 32.5cm
all very rough numbers.

actually: a full 12 x 49cm wide strip of the linen is enough to make a top-only dowel version and no extra support is needed (the linen is rigid enough). going with this since it's the easiest...
1. measure out the places to fold
2. locate the places to embroider (use running stitch to mark the boxes) and do that first. note: this is on the side without pencil marks
3. fold together with the embroidery on the inside and sew the edges, turn inside out
4. sew the loops
